Very good saw, decent blade in this kit March 17, 2010 Bruce L. Nguyen (Kennewick, WA) I have spent most of the day using this saw to cut studs. From my experience, the manual is very confusing to understand. it seems to be written in proper english but I don't know how to explain it it's just really confusing. I went to lowes intending to ask a salesguy to help me use it but I actually figured it out using their display model. aside from that its actual usage was fairly pleasant. first time using a miter saw and I looked at some youtube video on safety, just make sure you cut evenly and let the blade stop before you pull it up. I'm not sure what happened but the screw that holds the clamp to the base would not screw on all the way after I too it off to switch it to the other side. maybe sawdust got into it but i tried blowing it out and it still was stuck. maybe sap got into it, anyways minor problem but it did happen. the included 24 teeth blade is acceptable for ripping studs. this was my first time and on a sidenote, a stud or 2x4 is not actually 2 inches by 4 inches like I thought it would be. newbie mistake. maybe stud and 2x4 are 2 different things. if you cut at an even smooth stroke then slow down at the edge of the cut it seemed to minimize the small splintering of the wood. I plan on buying a freud blade to get cleaner cuts on molding. as someone mentioned it had a soft start. for some reason maybe he said this but I expected a softer start. it is a good feature but it does seem sudden at times. this is not really a negetive, just a thought so you don't have unrealistic expectations of what soft start means. I did not check to see if the bag colected dust like others have warned, but I did notice the sawdust gets blown away so the saw does not get plugged up with dust. overall good experience and I would recommend this. I opted not to get the one with the laser but now I'm debating whether or not I should have gotten that one. this saw had better reviews so I got it based on that. one little tip I did learn is that to get accurate cuts, lower the blade to the wood next to your pencil mark. MAKE SURE you keep your damn finger off the trigger and use your finger to rotate the blake so one of the teeth line up nect to the mark. spin the blade on the smooth part not the blade in case you are dumb enough to accidentally pull the trigger and rip off a part of your finger. I can eyeball the cut pretty accuratly that way, probably better than a laser but a laser is still something that sounds cool to have. anyways just my 2 cents from what I got from the first days use.
Works Great March 10, 2010 Jan (DC) I bought this saw from Amazon 15 months ago and I've used it frequently since. I've made about 80 cuts of treated 4x4, 100's of cuts of 2x10 and 2x12 (cutting half way through and then flipping the board over to finish the cut), and hundreds of 2x4's. I've even cut a few pieces of cured oak firewood when my first blade got tired. As long as you use the right cutting speed, this engine will power through anything. The built in clamp is useful and the saw is heavy enough to not tilt over after the cut. The guides and pivots are all intuitive. It's such a great tool, I use it even when I should probably pull out the circular.
Some minor issues: the sawdust bag is welcome, but it only catches half. It's to be expected but maybe down the road when I buy the next one, they'll have improved this. If I'd known I was going to cut such large dimensional lumber, I would have been seriously tempted to get the sliding compound miter, but it cost 4x as much and this one, surprisingly, does alright when used right.
Two thumbs up Hitachi!
Hitachi C10FCE2 10 inch compound miter saw February 1, 2010 Gerry M. Burnett Saw arrived in excellent condition, very fast. I'm an occasional user of this saw, and it works great. I plan to add a Freud blade to it and expect even better results.
Great little "knock-around" saw January 27, 2010 elkay (Selma, OR USA) Got this 10-inch miter to replace a fire-damaged B&D. Came packaged just fine. Nothing broken, brand new out of the box. Does all that I want it to as a homeowner and for its portability, as for larger jobs, I have a 12" Rigid in the garage. Had it less than a week, so have used it sparingly. Could use a finer toothed blade, but that's a nit.
Returned the first one January 10, 2010 Brian (Cincinnati, OH United States) I returned the first one because the bevel adjustment was so tight that I couldn't loosen. Directions are weak too, trying to tell me the wrong way to turn to loosen the bevel. Got the replacement and it works great! Returning a saw to Amazon is a bit of pain because of the wait time, but you get a full refund on shipping and they pick it up at your door.
