Amazon.com Sometimes, half an inch makes all the difference. But that's not the only reason to step up to the 735. Its powerful 10,000 rpm motor will handle anything you feed it--oak, walnut, exotics--with absolute ease. The three-knife cutterhead will make 96 or 179 cuts per inch, depending on which speed setting you choose. Mess is minimized with the fan-assisted chip ejection, which literally vacuums chips off the cutter-head and blows them out the exhaust. The 735's automatic carriage lock will save you from snipe by reducing the movement that causes it--what a great idea. We also love the redesigned thickness scale--it's big and super-visible, even in poor lighting. Those who do repetitive cuts will appreciate the turret depth-stop; set your most-used cuts to it once and you're always assured of accuracy. The home woodworker will be thrilled, and the professional's expectations will be more than met. This is a winner.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
Amazon.com Product Description DEWALT's 13-Inch Bench-Top Planer is a powerful machine that employs a three-knife cutter-head and 15.0 Amp motor that runs at up to 20,000 RPM for efficiently handling wide pieces of material and deep cuts. The 19 3/4-inch base is made of durable cast aluminum and the fan-assisted chip ejection system vacuums debris away from the cutting. Other features include an automatic carriage lock that reduces movement, an extra-large turret depth stop for finding frequently used thicknesses, and a two-speed gear box for easily changing feed-speeds. This heavy-duty planar has a maximum width capacity of 13 inches and a depth capacity of six inches with a 1/8-inch maximum depth of cut.

Dewalt DW735 Woodworking Perfection July 14, 2010 Paul Kachurak (Manakin-Sabot, VA, US) My partner and I have used his DW735 for several years now and have nothing but praise for this machine. I've read a lot of professional reviews and user opinions. I heard cussing and moaning about blade softness and snipe, etc., and can only offer my experience.
99.9% of snipe traditionally is causing by the operator and the angle by which the material is initially put through the machine. Learn the proper feed technique and "voila," not snipe. If necessary, buy the table extensions to help align the material.
I believe that the complaint of blade softness is ill-founded. I believe that if you are patient to work with both the material and the machine, the blades will exceed your expectations. The problem with most users is one of abuse by attempting to accomplish too much material removal in one pass. This is a finely tuned machine, capable of turning out an incredibly smooth end result on some of the hardest as well as crappiest pieces of stock.
I just purchased a second DW735. And, before I did, I went back to a professional review that was very helpful to me years ago. It reminded me why we chose the DW735 back then, and why I was so willing to buy another one today.
Please read Tim Hintz's review at [...] written back in 2005. I believe you'll find it just as helpful and informative today as it was back then.

This machine is like driving my older Mercedes. It simply runs like a dream!!!!!
Forget replacement parts July 13, 2010 D. Eby (Marblehead OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This WAS a decent planer. It's now crippled because I can't get parts from their site. I placed an order on May 7, today is July 13th. The order has been repeatedly delayed a couple of weeks at a time. But do they (DeWalt, Porter Cable, Delta) bother to tell you you're order has been delayed again? No! The only way you can find out that they've decided to delay fulfillment is to in initiate a search yourself.
Bottom line. It was a decent planer for a while but once it breaks you're done.
Lot more snipping than than the reviews claim May 13, 2010 Bruce C. Brown 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this planer because of the claim of little or no snipping. I seen no difference from the Delta 12" I replaced, I was very disappointed. The blades are short lived, I expected better from Dewalt. The dust system is great, I think this is the best feature of the machine.........over all not worth the money
Good for a first timer April 13, 2010 G. Gordon (Nashua NH) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is my first planer so it is difficult to compare against the performance of others, but based on the mix of reviews, I was unsure as of what to expect.
I purchased the feed extensions and the mobile base and set up was simple. I did read the manual as I've never operated one before and within 15 minutes I had made my first successful pass.
I had 3 trees taken down and rough sawn from my property. A sugar maple and two black walnuts. I've now planed about 300 board feet since my first version of this review. The blades are holding up fine, with just some very minor nicks. I continue to take light cuts...no more than 1/16 of an inch. I'm planing boards between 4 and 12 inches wide and 5/4 thick at this point.
My jointer isn't big enough for the wider boards so I'm only using the planer to finish. I have tried to take deeper cuts to see if I could go a little faster but if there's any warp in the board it binds up in the roller and stops. I have to back off the blade half way through, pull the board out and then start over. It could probably support deeper cuts on softer wood or narrow widths, but I haven't tried yet.
The finish is above my expectation and I'm quite pleased with it. Even on the rough pass setting I would only need a light sand before finishing.
The dust collection is strong. I have a Jet canister vacuum and the blower on the Dewalt is so strong, I don't even have to turn the Jet on, it just blows right through about 15' of tube and into the collection bag. The exhaust tube does need to be suspended from the ceiling or it gets in the way of longer boards
Technique seems to play a big role in the results at the ends of the boards as sometimes they are perfect and sometimes I have some snipe, but overall its not bad.
I've been using the planer for about 4 months now and overall, I'm pleased with my choice for.
